Tenuta Perano Chianti Classico 2021 (750ml)

Tenuta Perano Chianti Classico is crafted from vineyards perched 1640 feet above sea level in Gaiole, benefiting from optimal sun exposure and a unique amphitheatre layout. This distinctive terroir imparts a brilliant purplish hue, intense fruity aromas, and exceptional tannic structure to the wine, which exhibits an elegant vibrancy. The hand-harvested grapes undergo fermentation in stainless-steel tanks, with maceration and pump-overs for maximum polyphenol extraction. Maturation in oak barriques and bottle-aging further refine the wine’s complexity and depth.

VINEYARD

Tenuta Perano’s 52 hectares of vineyards are planted in a natural amphitheater with steep slopes of stony soils in the Gaiole subzone of Chianti Classico. The vineyards rise as high as 500 meters above sea level.

WINEMAKING This wine ferments in stainless steel with frequent breaking of the cap for greater structure. It ages for 24 months in oak barrel followed by several months in bottle.

VINTAGE The 2023 Chianti growing season was marked by promising early budding, a cool, rainy spring, and warmer summer temperatures that supported grape ripening. Despite challenges like April frost, heavy rains, and hailstorms, the harvest finished with healthy, ripe grapes. 2023 was Italy's hottest year on record, leading to a series of heatwaves and drought risks. Despite the volatility, the vintage holds promise.

TASTING NOTE Notes of berry and cherry aromas give way to a floral palate typical of Tenuta Perano. Its spiced aromas and fresh, balsamic finish have length and persistence.
